Self Portraits by 5th Grade Artists

Fifth grade artists spent all of December (and part of January) making these exciting multi-layered self-portraits! They traced the contours of their face from a photograph, making these drawings very realistic! Artists designed their backgrounds by painting in their own expressive style, and then layered illustrated text that they felt best described them.

Exploring Sculptural Possibilities

Sculptures by 6th Grade Artists

Sixth grade artists have been exploring the possibilities of recyclable and scrap materials in the art room. They had the opportunity to use materials that included cardboard, string, egg cartons, plastic containers, popsicle sticks, and styrofoam.

This project began to take shape after students analyzed the buildings and outdoor structures in their community, the ways people interact with them, and the students' own ideas for the way our communties could look if we were to take a creative approach to building public spaces.
